Doll Skin – Manic Pixie Dream Girl

Will get this out of the way right now. I simply love this album. Pure high energy female fronted punk at its very best.

Must admit I had never heard of this band before the promo landed in my inbox and as you can imagine what with the magazine and the radio station I get one hell of a lot of promos each and every week and trying to work your way through weeding out the chaff from the wheat is sometimes an impossible job but to find that diamond in the rough can sometimes rely on luck rather than judgement. All I can say is that the leprechauns were truly on my side this day.

Hailing from Arizona the band have come a long way since their debut EP attracting a lot of attention most notably from thrash metal legend Dave Ellfeson of Megadeath fame which is surprising in its self.

This girl has vocals with attitude and power which stands out the most on tracks like “Road Killa” and the opener “Shut Up (You Miss Me)”. On the more poppy tracks like “Rubi” I can only describe her as what Avril Lavinge would sound like if she had bigger balls.

If your taste is for that American pop/punk/rock sound then I highly recommend it.

Score 8.5 / 10
